Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Sweep in Houston: What to Know First
DuraFlex chimney sweep in Houston typically costs $189 to $329 for a standard sweeping and inspection of a wood-burning system, and most jobs are completed in one visit lasting 60 to 90 minutes. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized shop, which means we call problems as we see them, not as a warranty brochure would like us to. If you own a DuraFlex liner or chimney system and you’re overdue for a sweep, call (254) 978-7413 for a written quote before any work begins.
This page is for Houston homeowners who already have DuraFlex components in their chimney and want a sweep crew that actually knows how those parts behave after years of use. We’ll cover the DuraFlex-specific problems we see most often, what a proper sweep involves, and what it should cost. Danny Cortes built Kindling Chimney Houston on a simple rule: we tell you what we found before we touch a thing.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
DuraFlex makes solid liners and components, but every product line has its habits. Here’s what we actually see on Houston rooftops and in Houston flues, and what we do about each one.
- DuraFlex 304L liners and surface-weld corrosion. The 304L alloy is tough, but Houston’s humidity + salt air near Galveston Bay creates a condensation cycle inside the flue that most install manuals don’t dwell on. We regularly find pinhole corrosion starting at the weld seams on 304L liners that are 8 to 12 years old. During a sweep, we run a camera after the brushing and flag any seam that’s starting to pit, before it becomes a tear.
- DuraFlex 316Ti liners and the “white rust” misconception. Homeowners sometimes mistake the white oxide film on 316Ti for damage and get talked into a replacement they don’t need. The truth: that film is the titanium-stabilized alloy doing its job in a gas flue. We clean it, document it with photos, and tell you plainly whether it’s surface oxide or actual wall loss. Most of the time, no repair is needed.
- DuraFlex AL29-4C and the condensate trap problem. On high-efficiency gas appliances, this liner is the right call, but installers frequently skip the condensate drain at the base. What we find is acidic condensate pooling in the connector and eating at the liner from the bottom up. Our sweep includes checking the base connection and clearing any blockages, and we’ll show you a photo of what’s collecting down there.
- DuraFlex double-wall rigid sections pulling apart at the joints. Thermal cycling does this over years. A section will shift just enough to create a small gap between the inner and outer wall, and the next chimney fire or overfire event pushes creosote into that gap. On a sweep we feel for joint movement with a mechanical probe, not just a brush, because a brush will glide right over a seam that’s starting to separate.
- DuraFlex rain caps and spark arrestors with Houston pollen loading. Houston’s oak pollen and pine dust will cake a spark arrestor screen in one season. A screen that’s 60% clogged will make the fireplace draw poorly and smoke back into the room. Every sweep we do includes removing the cap, cleaning the screen by hand, and checking that the cap’s attachment hasn’t loosened in our windstorms.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Process
Every DuraFlex job follows the same sequence, and you’ll know the price before a brush comes off the truck.
- 1
Call and written estimate. You talk to a live person at (254) 978-7413. We discuss your fireplace type, fuel, and when you last had it swept. We give you a written price range before we schedule.
- 2
Arrival and floor protection. Shoe covers go on at the door, drop cloths cover the hearth and the path to the fireplace. We don’t move a thing without asking first.
- 3
Inspection before the sweep. We’re looking at the DuraFlex liner itself: joint alignment, surface condition, any staining that suggests hot spots. This is the step where we slow down, because catching a seam issue before brushing prevents a repair from becoming a replacement.
- 4
The sweep. We use poly brushes sized to the liner’s inner diameter, never wire brushes on a DuraFlex liner. Wire can score the metal and give creosote a foothold. We brush from the top down with vacuum running at the fireplace opening.
- 5
Camera pass and photo report. After the sweep, we run a camera through the flue and show you what we see. You get photos of the final condition, including any spots we’re recommending you watch or repair.
- 6
Cleanup and the Done Right Promise. We vacuum and wipe down the fireplace, take a photo of the clean-up before we leave, and you get our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the sweep wasn’t done right, we come back and make it right.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Costs in Houston
Here’s the honest picture on pricing, because a written price before work starts is part of how we operate.
- Standard DuraFlex wood-burning sweep, Level 1 inspection: $189 to $279
- Sweep with camera inspection after the brush (Level 2): $249 to $329
- Heavy creosote removal, including glazed or tar-heavy buildup: add $75 to $150 depending on thickness
- DuraFlex rain cap or spark arrestor cleaning and re-securing: $35 to $80
- Minor joint repair or seam sealing after the sweep: $120 to $250, quoted with photo evidence before we touch it
What moves the price is how much creosote you have, how tall the flue is, and whether your DuraFlex components need anything beyond a cleaning. You’ll always see the number in writing before work starts. Call (254) 978-7413 for an exact quote; estimates are free.
Why Houston Homeowners Call Kindling Chimney Houston for DuraFlex Work
We built our name on telling people what their chimney actually needs, not what the invoice could be. That matters double with DuraFlex, because a liner is only as good as the eyes that inspect it. Our techs have spent years pulling apart Houston fireplace assemblies, and when we say a DuraFlex liner has life left in it, you can trust that claim because we’ve got photos backing it up.
Every visit includes the Cedarwell Care Promise: shoe covers and drop cloths on arrival, a written price before work begins, and a photo of the clean-up before we leave. You also get a 365-Day Done Right Promise on every sweep, inspection, and repair we perform. And we’re not single-brand loyal to the point of blindness. If your DuraFlex liner needs something it can’t do well, we’ll tell you and bring in HeatShield or Gelco where those products genuinely fit the problem. That’s the job: matching the repair to the house, not the other way around.
FAQs
No, regular sweeping with the correct brush type will not void a DuraFlex warranty, and skipping sweeps is far more likely to cause the kind of damage a warranty won’t cover. We use poly brushes sized to the liner diameter, which is exactly the cleaning method the manufacturer’s own documentation calls for. Call (254) 978-7413 if you’re not sure what your liner’s warranty requires.
We typically schedule DuraFlex chimney sweeps in Houston within a few days to two weeks, depending on the season and which part of town you’re in. Fall is our busiest stretch, so calling before October gets you ahead of the rush. A live person answers at (254) 978-7413 and can give you the next available window.
We repair where repair is safe and replacement where it isn’t. Small joint gaps, loosened caps, and minor seam seal issues are often fixable on the spot for a few hundred dollars. But if the camera shows wall loss that compromises the liner’s ability to contain heat and gas, we’ll recommend replacement and show you exactly what we saw. We never recommend a liner replacement without camera evidence you can look at yourself.
We use OEM DuraFlex components where the part affects fit or safety, like liner sections, connectors, and caps. For accessory items where aftermarket quality is equal, we’ll offer both and tell you the difference in plain terms. The deciding factor is always what holds up in Houston’s humidity and heat cycles, not what’s easier for us to source.
Creosote builds up, the liner’s cross-section narrows, and your fireplace starts drawing poorly. The real risk isn’t just a chimney fire; it’s the less dramatic problem of acidic creosote sitting against the liner wall and quietly corroding it over several seasons. One sweep a year is cheap insurance against a liner replacement that runs into the thousands. Call (254) 978-7413 to book yours.
